How to Shorten a URL Online (with Custom Meta & QR)

A short URL is easier to type, share, and remember. When you add custom open-graph meta you control exactly how every preview card looks across the entire social web — Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Slack, WhatsApp, and iMessage.

  1. Paste any long URL. Drop in your Amazon affiliate link, Google Form, survey, UTM-tracked campaign link, Google Doc, YouTube video, event page, Etsy product, etc. The tool automatically flags YouTube URLs with a confirmation banner so you know the original video ID is preserved end-to-end.
  2. Optional Advanced (login required): custom title, description, preview image. Hit the Advanced Meta toggle. If you're not logged in you'll be prompted — signup takes 15 seconds. If you pasted a real URL first, the tool auto-fetches its existing title, description, and preview image so you don't start from scratch. Edit any field. Drag-drop a JPG/PNG/WEBP preview image if you want to replace the auto one completely.

Do I need to create an account to shorten a link?+
No for basic shortening: paste → Short Url → copy, done. You only need to be logged in for the Advanced feature, which lets you set a custom og:title, og:description, and og:image that social platforms display when someone posts the short link. Hit Advanced and you'll be prompted to sign up or log in if you aren't already.
What is the Advanced feature (custom meta)?+
When you are logged in and toggle Advanced, the tool fetches your link's existing open-graph meta (title, description, preview image) and then lets you override every field before shortening. The short link then serves YOUR custom title, description, and preview image when shared on Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, iMessage — anywhere that reads OG tags.
Why does it say "YouTube link detected" when I paste a YouTube URL?+
YouTube URLs get a special treatment: when you share the short link, the destination keeps the original YouTube video ID so views and ad-revenue still accrue to the creator. The banner message confirms the YouTube ID was parsed so you know the shortener handled the video correctly and is using the native YouTube thumbnail (unless you override it with the Advanced custom image upload).
Can I upload a custom image for the social preview?+
Yes — but only with the Advanced feature (login required). Open the Advanced panel while shortening a link. You can either keep the auto-fetched OG image URL, or drag-drop your own JPG/PNG/WEBP image file in the upload box. The custom image is then served as the og:image when the short link is shared on Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Slack, etc.
How long do the short links live? Do they expire?+
Shortened links generated by fbutube are permanent and do not expire. Once created, the code (slug) always resolves to your original destination URL. You can re-share the same link months later and it still works — no "7 day trial" or link rotation.
Is there a QR code included?+
Yes. After you generate a short link, a QR code is rendered automatically in the result card. Scan it with any phone camera to test the redirect, or right-click → Save image as PNG to print it on flyers, menus, business cards, product packaging, etc.
Can I post the short link to social media?+
Absolutely. In the result card there are four one-click share buttons: Facebook, X (Twitter), WhatsApp, and Telegram. One tap opens each app's composer with the short URL already inserted. All platforms read the custom OG tags (title/description/image) if you used Advanced mode.
